P4b Learning Log 27th Feb- 3rd March

We celebrated World Book Day this week on March 2nd. We dressed up as some of our favourite  characters, including our teacher! We did a lot of work on our class novel, Charlie and the  Chocolate Factory, and we even got to design our own bookmarks! Here are some examples of our own designs of The Chocolate Room and the inventing Room from our novel.

We have library time every Tuesday. We can borrow books and read them in a quiet space.

We had a visit from a professional storyteller this week. It was brilliant! He told us fictional stories and we are going to do some big writing next week based on the stories. In P.E we were learning to shoot a ball into a hoop accurately. We also learnt how to do an over arm throw in net ball.

P4b Learning Log 20th-24th Feb

This week was Internet safety week. We watched a video clip about a girl called Amber. She shared her stories of online social media and how sometimes things can get complicated when we use the Internet. As a class we then worked hard to answer questions and give our opinions on Ambers story. We now are more vigilant when browsing the web and using social media!

In maths this week we focused a lot on the 8 and 9 multiplication tables. We use a bingo game that helps us. For addition and subtraction the emtoy number line is really useful! We have also started working with larger numbers such as hundreds and thousands. It’s challenging!

Our new PE block focuses on Net Ball. This week we worked on handling the ball, quick reactions and how to throw and catch. Here we are practicing our catching:

Our novel this term is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so this week we completed character studies on certain characters from our novel. Next Thursday is World Book Day, so we might dress up as one of them!

P4b Prospect Bank Buddy Link

Primary 4b are this years buddy link class with primary 5 at Prospect Bank Primary School. We feel very luck to have the privilege of visiting the children at Prospect Bank every so often. This week , seven pupils, along with Miss Donohue and Miss Prescot, took a trip to Prospect Bank to visit our buddies.

We played classroom games, played outside in the yard and had snack together. We got to know all of our buddies names and they were very excited to have us there. Here are some photos from our trip this week:

p4b Learning Log Jan 31st-Feb 3rd

This week in Maths we worked on our 6 and 7 times tables. We use the smart board app Multilplication Bingo. We have also been using the empty number line to work out two digit addition and subtraction.

In Literacy this week we wrote a letter to the National Museum of Scotland for our Big Writing  lesson. We talked all about our trip to the museum and said how much we enjoyed it.

We have been reading the novel Charlie and the Chocolate factory and we love it!! This week we got to design our own Wonka chocolate bars. We designed the cover and included what flavour bar we wanted.

Our new Science topic is Weather. This week we learned about how rain water is formed. We all found it very interesting! We then made our own weather information booklets and we will work on these over the next few weeks adding more of what we learn. This week we looked at the water cycle. We learned new terminology such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation.

For our last lesson on our Ancient Egypt topic, we had to design posters and present a drama to the class about the mummification process. Here we are using our best acting skills!

P4b Gymnastics

We have been learning all about Gymnastics in PE with Miss Donohue and Miss McGlaughlin. This week we have been practicing our forward rolls and working on different ways to travel using a hoopla-hoop! We partnered up and then did some demonstrations for the rest of the class. Take a look:

P4b- Egyptian Drama

This week we designed Egyptian posters on the process of mummification. We learned all about this process on our museum trip. We had to recall the steps of mummification and then demonstrate the process to the class by acting out a drama. We used tissue to pretend we were mummifying each other. We had so much fun doing the drama and we will watch them back together at the end of the week!

P4b Learning Log 23rd-28th Jan

This week we learned all about Egyptian houses and what they were made from. They use mud stones. These were made by stacking bricks of mud on top of one another after being dried out in the heat! We then labelled an Egyptian home diagram!
This week we also went on a trip to the museum. We learned some fascinating things! We seen a replica of a mummies coffin. We also had a workshops and in the work shop we lear ed about mummification! We got to old ancient Egyptian charms. We had to be very careful with these as they are years old.

Here is an ancient Egyptian piece of jewellery that Aidan made for homework:

It was Robert Burns night on Wednesday. We designed our own Scottish Kilts and talked about different ways of celebrating Burns night!

P4b Learning Log 16th-20th Jan

This week we did a lot of work on our 7 times tables. We find the 7, 8 and 9 the trickiest but we use a game on the smart board called multiplication bingo and that really helps us to remember them! We want to get much better at our times tab,Es over the next few months.
This week in our Egyptian lesson we learnt all about Pharaohs and their role in ancient Egypt. Some Pharaohs we learnt about were Ramses 11 and Tutankhamen. King Tut was the most popular King during the Egyptian times. He was also known as ‘The Boy King’ because he became King when he was only 9, and passed away when he was 18/19. His father was King before him, but was not popular with he people of Egypt because he tried to change many of the laws. King Tut restored Egypt to its original self. We made our own information sheets King Tut:

We also did more of our coding this week during our ICT time. Coding was tricky at the start but we are getting much better at it! We talked a lot about resilience. Being resilient is being able to deal with ups and downs we may feel throughout our day and how we can pick ourselves up after we have been upset. We talked a lot about different emotions and different feelings we can feel. So we made our very own emotions grid!

In Literacy this week we made story maps for big writing. We had to listen to a story about an Egyptian girl called Rhodophis. Then, instead of writing a story, we created a story map to outline the sequence of events. This is going to help us in our story writing a lot. Here are some examples:

P4b Ancient Egyptians

We began our topic on Ancient Egyptians in Nov/Dec. We are learning so much about life during the Egyptian times and we still have os much more to learn. We really enjoy it becuase we get to do a lot of art and design activites and use IPads to research.

All of our Egyptian class work is displayed on our walls. Here are some pictures for you to look at!

We learnt about the Egyptian afterlife and what Egyptians believe. Many Egyptians make their own death masks to wear in the afterlife, so we designed our own! Take a look-
