This week we learnt about the artist Laurel Burch. We looked at her artwork and discussed the style of her work. We noticed that she likes to use bright colours and patterns and a lot of her work is about living things. We then created our own pet pictures following this style. We all enjoyed this task and our artwork looks fantastic! 




This week in maths we have been learning about fractions. We learnt about halves and quarters and played games to help us. Here are some photos of us learning.

In maths this week we have been learning about fractions. We took part in a variety of activities throughout the lesson to help us find half of a whole shape.

This week in maths we made a class pictograph about eye colour. After, we created the graph we worked with a partner to make questions for others to answer about our graph. 


We have also been doing some imaginary writing this week. We have learnt a lot about animals over the last few weeks and used what what we know to create our own imaginary  animals. We used different parts of animals to create our creatures and wrote about where they live, what they eat and then gave a description of what our animal looked like. We really enjoyed this task and loved looking at each other’s animals. Here are some pictures of our writing

This week as part of our topic we have been learning about the life cycle of a frog. We had fun making frog headbands which show each stage of the life cycle.

We are also very lucky and have tadpoles in our classroom! We have been watching the tadpoles grow and hopefully will see them change into frogs before we break up for summer.

I think we should find some healthy eating games to play in the classroom.” –Rory

We have been busy learning how to measure this week. First we looked at sorting objects from shortest to longest and then we used cubes to help us measure things around the room. Before we measured objects we had to remember to estimate how many cubes long an object would be. We had great fun measuring things around our classroom!

This week in topic we have been learning about where our food comes from. We learnt that a lot of our foods come from farms and that we have animal and plant products. We worked together to look at pictures of foods and sorted them into the correct food groups.

The Wonderbag! 

As an introduction to our healthy lifestyle topic, P2a made potato and leek soup. We all had  a turn of preparing the ingredients needed to make the soup and had to follow instructions carefully when doing this.

When the soup was prepared we let it boil on the stove. We then used the Wonderbag, a slow cooker, to finish cooking the soup. At first we didn’t think the Wonderbag would work  very well. However, it kept the soup cooking for hours and in the end the soup tasted delicious!

This week in maths we were learning how to round numbers up and down to the nearest 10. We played games on the board and had different written tasks at our desks to help us practise rounding numbers.


In RME we were learning about Chinese New Year. We talked about our own New Year traditions and compared them to the traditions in China. We liked learning about how the colour red is lucky in China and we loved the story of the zodiac animals.

We made our own Chinese dragons to bring luck into our classroom.

P2a November Learning Log.

I know that magic e scares the vowel to say it’s real name, the vowels are A,E,I,O,U. –Nina

We were learning about time in maths. We learnt about quarter past and quarter to. –Ayla

We learnt about poppy day this week and we made dazzle poppies. –Florence.

I learnt that magic e puts all it’s power into the vowels so that they can say their name and that makes the e silent. -Dan
