P6b Learning Log w.c.16.4.18

On Tuesday we were making up games for us to play with the younger children when we become Play Leaders next year. We have to do training for 12 weeks but if we miss a week they will keep us up to date. You can make drums or you can make tents and all kinds of things.

I did not like song practice this week because we had music straight after. We were singing songs and handing out certificates. In music we were playing the samba drums.

In maths we were learning about time, finishing off corrections and learning a shortcut to adding on 9. Some other children practised division with remainders and addition of four-digit numbers.

We listened really well and enjoyed watching the Odysseus video. In our co-operative learning groups we’re working hard on our presentations for next week. Each group is researching and presenting a different topic on Ancient Greece to the class so that we can learn from each other.

This week P1b enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day.

The whole class enjoyed watching P3b’s assembly.  They have learned a lot about Edinburgh.  They told us that Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano and they told us about their visit to the castle.  They also sang “Three Craw’s”.  Well done P3!

Here are some of the children in p1b playing one of their favourite maths games at the SmartBoard.  It’s called Adventure Man and is a counting game.  They were very good at taking turns and were helping each other play the game.  Well done!

What’s going well this week.

World Book Day and the assembly were fun!

Lots of children went to the movie night and had fun watching Boss Baby.  It was great fun coming to school in your pyjamas and eating popcorn.  We hope the parents enjoyed their chilli night.

We have started to learn about time.  We are keen to learn to tell “o’clock times”.

We have been learning ‘ee’ and ‘ea’ sounds which are found in words like ‘feet’ and ‘heat’.  We like learning new sounds.

In maths we have been learning to ‘count on’.

In topic we created some incredible artwork. Everyone tried really hard and they are so interesting.

We have put PostIts out for people to comment on our work. We’ve had some really nice comments.

imageIn Buddy Time we helped them by reading books and some buddies read to us. Everyone  was listening so well.

In P.E. we played with a parachute. We played two games. The first one was Fruit Salad. In Fruit Salad there are four teams. Team one is Apple, team two is Strawberry, team three is Blueberry and team four is Banana. One person calls out a team and the other teams must throw the parachute up in the air and the team that is called runs under and finds an empty place. When the caller says Fruit Salad, everyone throws the parachute up in the air and runs under. The second game was to get a beanbag in the hole in the middle.

This week Millie, Lexi, Orla, Daniel and Darcy enjoyed planting and watering seeds with Miss Flockhart. They learned about how plants grow.

Millie and Sophie have enjoyed learning to do an underarm throw in P.E.   Sophie has been practising at home, too.

Darcy is pleased that the children are playing nicely in the playground and Daniel thinks that they are behaving well in the corridors, too.

Lexi always looks forwards to getting a new reading book and she enjoys practising her reading.

Orla has a favourite maths game on the smartboard.  It is the maths basketball game and we have been using it to practice adding two numbers.

We all enjoyed watching the p4 assembly.  The play was fantastic and they also sang “Three Craws”, with some new verses that they wrote themselves.  Well done p4!

Everbody enjoyed it when we got a surprise visit from a very nice lady, also known as Miss Binnie. She read “Tabby McTat” to the whole class and helped us paint some leaves to make a beanstalk.  Thanks Miss Binnie!

The class are still enjoying school, but Darcy would like to change some things in the classroom to make it look different.
