It has been another busy week at school, with some wonderful opportunities for the children; Learning for Sustainability, Choir performances, celebrating successes at camp and getting our Young Scots Card photos taken. Please check out our e journals and website for photographs of our learning.
Learning for Sustainability
‘Young people are powerful. Young people have vision. Young people can change the world’
That was the inspirational message delivered by the youth empowerment group ‘WE schools’ to Hermitage Park Primary on Wednesday. Then, our Pupil Council, Eco and Health Committee worked with the WE ambassador, Mrs Black and Miss Alexander, identifying the local and global issues that sparked their passion and empowered them with the tools to take action.
Mr Ben Macpherson MSP, also participated and was impressed with how our school is supporting the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Our P7 tour guides (in their new role as P7 Young Leaders), impressed him further as they escorted him around the school, answering questions and sharing points of interest along the way
Playground Today we reintroduced playing in the Infant Playground for P1 and P2 children at breaks. There has been an improvement in the use of inappropriate language by the children in the playground -thank you for your support with this. We continue to focus on politeness and good manners in and around school.
Lost Property Can you please check the growing pile of lost property at the front entrance for any mislaid items? Thank you.
Hermie Stars Congratulations to our Hermitage Park Stars of the Week who demonstrated they were successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

From Studio to Stage ‘Studio to Stage’ at the Queen’s Hall on Wednesday 14 March was a wonderful opportunity for Edinburgh primary schools to showcase their pupils’ achievements in music, dance and drama as part of the Resonate Concert Series. We were told to be prepared to be ‘blown away’ by the creativity and variety of performances. Well… I was! Both of our school choirs were invited to perform. They sang Scottish songs beautifully …with actions and acting, and they worked so well together to tell their story… it was really quite an emotional experience. I was so proud of each and every one of them. Lexi’s individual dance performance was just amazing. The whole evening was a celebration of talent. Well done! Hermie choirs and a huge thank you to Mrs Deponio and Mr Craighead for their hard work and efforts.
Fair Trade Fortnight 2018 Today we completed our Fairtrade Fortnight with a Fair Trade assembly presentation by the Fair Trader pupil group, and we learnt about the journey of a Fair Trade football. Ask your child if they can remember what shapes make up the football, and how long it takes to hand stitch them. Do you know?
The Fair Trade ‘cake bake’ was filled with delicious goodies…we really appreciate all of your help and support with this. I thoroughly enjoyed the malteeser cake, thank you Mrs Burgess! The children have been applying their maths skills to count and sort the money. I wonder how much they have made to send to Fair Trade.
Qualie Fundraiser Max and Chloe shared their P7 Qualie Dance fundraising event today with all the classes…guess the rabbit’s name and guess the gorilla’s birthday, and each has a large chocolate egg too! The guesses cost 50p each. P7 pupils will come round the classes each day to collect money for the guesses.
Running Club The Hermitage Park running club finally started on Saturday 10th March. Lachlan P1, Faye P1/2, Dan P3 and Nora P4 came along and helped with choosing a warm up exercise then completed a 4K run. We had 5 adults and 4 children attending but hope to improve on these numbers. We’ll be meeting at 9am every Saturday during term time.
