P7b Learning Log Sep-Dec 16

September

The Christmas cards went well this week because we all finished them. We made them early so that our families could order them in time for sending out at Christmas. Also it was good because we got to do what designs we wanted to do.

We started fitness on Tuesday with Mrs McLaughlin and on Thursday with Miss Milne. We created our own station as part of a fitness circuit.

In maths some of us started learning about bearings which is used by sailors, pilots and more when following directions. I thought it was very confusing at first but then you pick up on it and understand it better.  Our next steps are to try and get better at doing bearings in maths and the other groups’  next steps are to work  more on coordinates.

*I think the Christmas cards went well.

* P.E. The fitness is good because it is good exercise.

I think this week could have been better if we had finished everything.

Dazzle Ships’

Dioramas

For our Dazzle Ship topic we have been researching facts about the ships. Here are some of the facts which we have found out.

Maths

In maths, the Octagons have been learning about scale. They decided to make models of the Leith Dazzle Ship. They used a diagram of the ship and measured the length and height of it. The models they are currently making are half the size of the diagram. They also wanted to make them out of plasticine. These are photos of progress so far.

We have finished our dazzle ships now and showed them to Helena who works for the City Art Centre who comissioned the Leith Docklands Dazzle Ship. We also showed Mrs Penman, our head teacher, and she said they were a great version of active maths. we also thought that it was a great challenge and we should do it more often!
